Showroom OMR
Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico City · 2010
Showroom OMR is a gallery and furniture showroom that operates as a stage set — a deliberately theatrical space where the boundary between architecture, art, and display dissolves completely. The exterior announces its intentions with a monochrome composition of black-painted steel, dark stucco, and beds of white river stones flanking a portal-like entrance. Inside, the drama intensifies: floor-to-ceiling murals of silhouetted trees transform the white walls into a graphic forest, a tiered crystal chandelier hangs above a glass-topped table surrounded by ornate black chairs, and the polished concrete floor reflects every object like dark water. The space operates simultaneously as gallery, showroom, and installation — each vignette a composition in black and white punctuated by a single object or artwork that earns its color through the contrast. It is architecture as curation, where the room itself is the first and most ambitious exhibit.
