Primer Nivel
Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico City · 2011
Primer Nivel is a fashion boutique that treats retail as spatial theater. Housed in a mid-century building whose Art Deco-inflected stone facade — with its rounded tower, horizontal banding, and address spelled out in chrome lettering — hints at the drama within, the interior is a sequence of rooms defined not by walls but by light. Colored washes of amber, green, and violet sweep across floor-to-ceiling glass display panels, transforming the garments behind them into silhouettes and the corridor into an ever-shifting chromatic experience. Polished floors reflect the colored ceilings, doubling the effect, and the transitions between hues are gradual enough that the visitor moves through the spectrum without noticing the shift. The architecture turns the act of browsing into an immersion — a space where fashion and light design are not merely adjacent but identical.
