Luna Sol

Luna Sol is a tropical resort woven into the jungle canopy rather than cleared from it. The complex spirals outward from a central thatched pavilion along a network of elevated boardwalks and curving stone paths, with individual guest villas, a circular infinity pool raised above the treetops, and open-air gathering spaces scattered through the dense vegetation like clearings in a forest. The architecture takes its cues from the coastal vernacular — thatched palapa roofs, stucco walls stained to the color of wet earth, timber columns and screens — but deploys them at a scale and with a formal ambition that transforms the familiar into something almost mythic. The masterplan is organized as a series of concentric arcs, so that the resort reads from above as a great spiral of rooftop and green, with the jungle threading through every gap. Even in a rainstorm, the complex has the presence of a place that was designed to work with the weather rather than against it — water streaming from the palm-thatch eaves, paths glistening, the jungle exploding into deeper green.
