Casa Playitas
La Playitas, Baja California Sur · 2024
Casa Playitas rises from the Baja scrubland as a stack of sunlit terraces oriented toward the Sierra de la Laguna. The two-story volume is clad in a rhythm of vertical timber battens over sand-colored stucco, giving the facade a textile-like texture that shifts in tone and shadow as the sun crosses the sky. Deep balconies on the upper floor are shaded by reed canopies and framed by slender black steel railings, while the ground level opens completely — living room, kitchen, and covered outdoor dining flowing into one another and out to a pool terrace that steps down into the desert. The material language is warm and tactile — timber, stucco, woven reed, concrete — and every room is positioned to frame the mountains to the east and the Pacific light to the west. It is a house built for the particular drama of a landscape where desert meets sea.
