Casa Patios

Playa Cerritos, Baja California Sur · 2023

Casa Patios is designed around the idea that outdoor space is not leftover space — it is the primary architecture. The house wraps around a series of covered and uncovered courtyards, each one scaled and planted for a different quality of light and use: a shaded dining loggia under a slatted metal pergola, a sun-drenched pool terrace rimmed with barrel cacti and agave, a private garden tucked between bedroom wings. The built volumes are low, sand-colored, and deliberately understated — concrete frames, stucco walls, timber screens — so that the patios themselves, not the rooms, become the memorable spaces. A long outdoor dining table beneath the pergola seats a dozen, and the kitchen opens directly to it through a wide pass-through, making the act of gathering the centerpiece of the plan. In a climate that permits outdoor living nearly year-round, this house takes that permission literally: the roof is for shade, the walls are for wind, and everything else is sky.
