Casa L

Casa L is a house that speaks the language of Mexican modernism without quoting it. On a tree-lined residential street, a monolithic concrete tower anchors the composition — its raw grey stone face rising two stories to separate the public and private wings of the house. Flanking it, white stucco volumes stretch outward, their flat roofs floating at different levels, while a long terracotta-colored wall cuts diagonally across the upper terrace like a stroke of pigment on a white canvas. The Barragán influence is unmistakable — the saturated color planes, the interplay of mass and void, the way a single hue can transform an entire spatial experience — yet the house belongs entirely to its own time. Wide-plank wood decking connects the rooms to a garden of mature trees, and generous sliding glass walls turn the living spaces inside out. It is architecture as careful composition: every surface, every material join, every threshold between color and light reads as a deliberate act.
