Casa Esmerelda is proof that economy and beauty are not opposites. Built on a modest footprint with straightforward materials — concrete block, birch plywood, polished concrete, and palo de arco — the house achieves a warmth and spatial generosity that belies its simplicity. The plan is open and efficient: living, dining, and kitchen occupy a single volume whose plywood-clad walls and built-in cabinetry give the interior the feel of a finely jointed wooden box. Outside, a palo de arco pergola extends the living space into a courtyard strung with lights, where the evenings unfold under a canopy of woven sticks and stars. The concrete floors are polished to a soft sheen, the block walls left exposed where they can catch raking light, and the detailing throughout is precise without being precious. It is a house that does more with less — not as a constraint, but as a conviction.
